Board of Advisors
Kim Cummings, M.D., a pediatrician and passionate global health advocate, joined the Bend Biomedical Board of Advisors in 2023. She earned her medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University and completed her undergraduate studies at Linfield College. Her residency in pediatrics took place at Loma Linda University Health Education Consortium, where she honed her expertise in caring for children facing complex health issues. Dr. Cummings is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and brings her extensive experience and dedication to Bend Biomedical’s mission.
One of Dr. Cummings’ most impactful experiences was volunteering with Northwest Medical Teams in San Pedro Cholula, Oaxaca, Mexico. In this rural community, where open fires are commonly used indoors for cooking and heating, she saw firsthand the health risks associated with indoor air pollution. As part of a project to build stoves that reduce smoke exposure, Dr. Cummings gained a deep appreciation for preventive health measures and low-tech interventions. This experience reinforced her commitment to addressing the root causes of health issues in underserved areas.
Throughout her career, Dr. Cummings has worked with children affected by severe and often preventable illnesses, including cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, and metabolic disorders. She finds profound meaning in supporting her young patients, many of whom display incredible resilience and courage despite their struggles. Witnessing their hope and spirit fuels her dedication to medicine both in the U.S. and internationally, inspiring her commitment to improving pediatric care for vulnerable populations.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Cummings is a strong advocate for evidence-based medicine. She believes that healthcare decisions should always incorporate the latest and most reliable research, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients. Her approach combines compassion with a commitment to rigor, making her a valuable member of the Bend Biomedical team as they work to expand access to quality healthcare globally.
